Our History
Opening of Original 'New Bath'
The New Bath Hotel and Spa began in 1745 in the heart of Matlock Bath. Built around a naturally warm, spring-fed underground plunge pool, it offered visitors a rare chance to relax and restore in mineral-rich waters. Known as “The New Bath,” it helped shape Matlock’s identity as a place of wellbeing.
New Bath to 'New Bath Hotel'
As interest in the therapeutic waters grew, the original bathhouse evolved. Expansions in the late 18th and 19th centuries transformed it into a hotel, welcoming guests seeking calm and comfort in the Derbyshire Dales.
Introduction of the Outdoor Pool
A new outdoor swimming pool was constructed, fed by natural spring water, enhancing the hotel's appeal and providing guests with a unique bathing experience.
New Bath Hotel & Spa
The hotel and lido underwent significant renovations and reopened in 2016, restoring its historic charm and modern amenities. In 2024, The New Bath Hotel and Spa was acquired by Deventure Hotels & Resorts. The hotel continues to welcome guests to stay and visit the historical lido today.
