Our Story

The New Bath Hotel and Spa began in 1745 in the heart of Matlock Bath. Built around a naturally warm, spring-fed plunge pool, it offered visitors a rare chance to relax and restore in mineral-rich waters. Known as “The New Bath,” it helped shape Matlock’s identity as a place of wellbeing.

As interest grew, the simple bathhouse evolved. Expansions in the late 18th and 19th centuries transformed it into a hotel, welcoming guests seeking calm and comfort in the Derbyshire Dales.

Today, the hotel still holds many of its original features. It offers a space where history and modern hospitality come together in one unique and peaceful setting.
