The New Bath Hotel, circa 1938
Originally built in 1745 and extended in 1780-90, and three further times during the 1800’s. The New Bath Hotel and Spa was first opened in May 1745, housing a basement plunge bath / swimming pool fed by a naturally warmed spring water, and became known as The New Bath. This is now the only one of Matlock's two baths to survive from the 1800’s.
The hotel generally retains many original features and room layout from its earlier days, with modern facilities carefully inserted. The hotel has been extended over the years, and currently has 54 bedrooms, a Spa area offering a range of treatments and relaxation, as well as its famous outdoor Lido, fed by the same natural spring used for the original plunge bath. The hotel is currently in private ownership, and is run as an independent hotel.
